Salon Du Chocolat: Chocolate Week

Salon du chocolat

London plays host to many amazing events throughout the year, but the weekend introduced me to one that I hope becomes a staple on the British Calendar. Salon Du Chocolat took place 18-20 October in Kensington Olympia. Boasting some of the biggest names in the world of chocolatiers, chocolate connoisseurs, industry leaders and foodies came together to celebrate the art of chocolate, learn more about the craft and buy some of the world’s best chocolates. Of course, Onin London was at Salon Du Chocolat, getting the low down on what was on offer.

We were lucky enough to watch a master class by chocolatiers, Rococo in which the audience were taught how to make passion fruit and rosemary chocolates as well as one immediately afterwards by the head pastry chef from Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck restaurant, Hideko Kawa, who blew us away with her life like chocolate egg.

With chocolate treats from as far afield as South Africa as well as many French delicacies, Salon du Chocolat left the exhibition goers spoiled for choice. Some of our personal favourites were UK based companies The Brownie Bar, Cocoa Runners ( a subscription box service!) and Aneesh Popat’s The Chocolatier.

With workshops designed specifically for children, a couture chocolate themed fashion show and chocolate based spa treatments, Salon Du Chocolat far surpassed our imaginations. In its maiden year within London, this was a perfect way to end Chocolate Week 2013. Firmly stamping their mark on the London scene and showing us that chocolate making is a fine art, the chocolate companies who show cased their wares, from Divine, Lindt, Artisan du Chocolat and Prestat, all who took part this weekend did themselves proud.
