Shout out to sprouts – Tastecard launches brussels sprouts restaurant
Whether you pile them on you plate or hide them in you napkin, love them or hate them, brussel sprouts the marmite of veg, will continue to divide the nation this festive season. Boiled to a mush or undercooked bitter and chewy, this humble veg doesn’t always have a good reputation. However cooked right, this side dish has a lot of versatility; steamed, roasted, pan-fried or sautéed, with its mild flavour it makes for interesting flavour combinations.
Join Tastecard, the UK’s leading diners’ club in giving a shout out to sprouts with the launch of a pop-up Brussel Sprout restaurant on Micawber Street, London. In a bid to offer a unique food experience (and, hopefully, sway guests’ minds) this undervalued vegetable will be the main centrepiece in a three-course brussel themed set menu.
The contested veg is getting a creative makeover with all the trimmings, tempting guests with a unique menu of flavoursome dishes such as Brussels arancini with spiced tomato and nigella sauce, Lamb kofte with shredded Brussels tabbouleh and pomegranate, Brussel sprout risotto with lemon, chili and hazelnuts as well as other Brussels Sprouts delights. To accompany your meal, enjoy a bubbly Brussels Bellini cocktail, a refreshing sprouts-infused Bellini (unfortunately it doesn’t count as one of your 5 a day)
Diners will have something to sprout about with entertainment by a London based drag performer, who’ll be serenading guests dressed head to toe as a Brussels Sprout. So even if you don’t become a convert, at least the fun entertainment won’t leave a bitter taste in your mouth.
