SQUALK THIS WAY – THE PICKLED HEN OPENS ITS DOORS TO DINERS IN MARYLEBONE

A new gastropub by the name of ‘The Pickled Hen’ has spread its wings and opened to diners in the heart of Marylebone offering an authentic selection of British food and drinks but with a pickled twist.

With a pickled-themed menu ranging from ‘Pickled Fish Board’ shareables, pickled cockles and mussel starters, ‘The Pickled Hen’ roast chicken and burger mains and ‘Egg and Soldiers’ (it’s a white and dark chocolate mousse) and ‘The Picked Cheesecake’ for dessert we were curious to go and check out their wide variety of dishes.

With a cosy and rustic atmosphere, The Pickled Hen delivered a warm, approachable and welcoming service. Peter Roberts, general manager for The Pickled Hen said of the opening: “The Pickled Hen aims to bring something new and unique to people in the area – a place where locals and those visiting Marylebone can relax and unwind against the backdrop of an authentic, gastro-pub atmosphere”.

Feeling in a celebratory mood we commenced our evening with a glass of champagne and tried the ‘Grilled Scallops’ with Dorset crab, leeks, sorrel and crème fraiche and the ‘Grilled King Prawns’ with garlic butter. For the main we chose the ‘Sea Bass’ with cider mussels, barley and funnel and a side of sweet potato fries with smoked mayonnaise. The fries were better than good! Although we should have chosen a pickled-theme desert we went for the sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and clotted cream. This dish was very generous in size and we couldn’t eat it all. The food was appetizing and flavourful and I’d recommend going there for a Sunday roast or dinner after work.

The Pickled Hen Restaurant can be found on George Street and has been designed by B3 Interiors, featuring contemporary table settings. The ambiance is cosy and it is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.
