The Hunter’s Moon Celebrates 5th Birthday
Happy 5th Birthday to The Hunter’s Moon. To celebrate ONIN were invited by founders Oliver Marlowe and Hubert Beatson-Hird to an evening of champagne, cocktails and canapés.
This countryside pub located in Chelsea is named for a significant event in traditional folklore and astronomy. The Hunter’s Moon, also known as a Blood Moon, is the first full moon after the Harvest Moon. It marked the time of the last hunt before the winter, and represents the community working together and staying comfortable and well-fed during hard times. This was shown through the decor and ambiance. Entering from Fulham Road there’s the dark wood and olive green bar area with cozy nooks and leather chairs. In the dining room white and black floor tiles, oak walls and leather booths gave the pub a sophisticated look. The fireplace and original Aga added rustic charm the skylight enable led natural light.
Chef director Oliver Marlow has created a menu which offers both contemporary and traditional dishes. The focus is on using the best of British. There really is something for everyone from the A La Carte menu, to brunches and Sunday roasts. We were treated to a variety of items from the bar snack menu.
The Korean popcorn chicken with gochujang mayonnaise (£9) was our favourite as it hit the right spot- both sweet and slightly spicy. We give the salt and pepper squid with saffron aioli and green chilli (£11) a big thumbs up. The sausage roll (£5) had a good mix of meat and pastry. My friend enjoyed the Scotch egg (£5.50) and padron peppers with lemon zest and sea salt (£8).
We enjoyed two glasses of bubbly sitting at a small circular table in the dining area whilst chatting about our week. We kept seeing the cucumber and chilli spiced margaritas (£13.50) so of course we needed to try this. It’s a balance of sweet, spicy, tart and refreshing. It was so good we went back for a second one. It was then time for a gin and tonic and a nice glass of wine to finish the night.
To The Hunter’s Moon is a stylish and comfortable gastropub. We liked it so much we have talked about having a meal there.
To the Hunter’s Moon we hope you have many more happy days ahead and look forward to celebrating with you in the future.
