THE MANDRAKE ANNOUNCES ITS LATEST ARTIST IN RESIDENCE, CEREUS NIGHTS
The collaboration between luxury hotel and floral design studio aims to showcase a beautiful summer display in The Mandrake’s iconic Courtyard.
Fitrovia’s multi-award-winning hotel, The Mandrake (www.themandrake.com), has announced the latest collaboration in its Artist In Residence Programme. The luxury hotel will work in partnership with Cereus Nights, the Flower Studio that explores the space between sculpture and floristry.
Launching to the public on the 21st June, the artwork will be designed by Cereus Nights. The artist will reside at The Mandrake for a full week to create the unique piece of floral art. The sculpture will be built around the two iconic 150-year-old Tasmanian Fern trees that tower from The Courtyard up to the venue’s Jurema Terrace.
Inspired by the delicate balance between the natural world and human experience, the botanical architect aims to transform the space into a whimsical haven that blurs the boundaries between sculpture, architecture, and floral wonders. The collaboration was facilitated by The Mandrake’s Creative Director, Maguelone Marcenac, who introduced, spearheaded and refined the hotel’s Artist In Residence program.
The finished structure will be an embodiment of the fantastical relationship between the organic and man-made. Drawing inspiration from The Mandrake’s purpose-built treehouse – a delightful and rustic structure for events and intimate dining – the floral sanctuary will captivate visitors and offer another mystical artwork to admire amongst the hotel’s wider impressive collection.
The aim of this ‘Botanic Haven’ is to invite viewers to explore the boundaries of their imagination and reconnect with the enchantment of the natural world. The piece will use natural florals and bring together the beautiful contrasts of flora and architecture – evoking curiosity. Whether guests are staying at The Mandrake or dining in one of the restaurants and bars – Waeska, YOPO and Jurema Terrace – the exhibition offers another artistic touchpoint to surprise and delight visitors.
The Mandrake’s Artist in Residence program strives to provide an interactive playground, where artist and visitor interact in the hotel’s exquisitely designed spaces to create original, unique, provocative, and live works of art. Previous artists in residence include, but aren’t limited to, Jonas Burgert, Haris Nukem, Kour Pour, David Paul Kay and artist Slawn, who created a magnificent piece in collaboration with American rapper, A$AP Rocky.
The Mandrake’s collaboration with Cereus Nights launches on the 21st June and is available for the public to visit until 31stAugust..
