The Pagination: Drake & Morgan
Drake & Morgan never disappoints us with their uber stylish and eclectic chain of restaurant’s and The Pagination located at Cabot Square did not disappoint. The newly refurbished venue has incredible views out over the wharf, The Pagination effortlessly blends al fresco relaxing with an impeccably-finished bar and dining rooms. Enter through the geometric-inspired dark wood framed glass doors into a luxurious space filled with notes of gold, silver and copper. Discerning drinkers can take a pew at a bar-side high table surrounded by tan leather-topped stools, while those looking to dine can luxuriate in the airy dining room. Follow lantern candles and find your place on a vibrant blue banquette, grey low-set seat or smart dark-wood chair, taking a moment to spot modern touches in the form of statement artworks, leafy planters and hanging pendant light features.
You can always tell an amazing restaurant or bar by its staff and can I say we have never felt so welcome in a venue as we were at The Pagination. All the staff were warm and attentive and it was lovely watching them walking around speaking to their customers and not in that weird are you ok way, but generally taking an interesting and listening. The staff really made what was a stressful Tuesday relaxing to the point that we hung out and stayed until almost closing time.
The Pagination offers a really simple menu that is easy to choose from, with some great wines and they are known for their signature cocktails. For starters I had the Scotch egg with chorizo and smoked paprika mayonnaise and it was divine! For those who love Drake & Morgan you may know of their Scotch egg and black pudding offering and how amazing that is, well you need to try this! For my main I tried the grilled salmon coated in a pecan and lemon crunch, which sat on a bed of butter spinach and my friend opted for a good old steak. For our sides we shared the trio of fries, which consists of ‘Roman Fries” which are coated in parmesan, truffle and rosemary, ‘Cowboy Fries’ coated in honey, chilli and garlic and normal plain fries. The food was great, the salmon was cooked perfectly and offset well with the crunchy exterior, I would definitely next time try them with the mashed potatoes. The fries were great, but think the softness of mashed potatoes would have added an extra layer of special to my meal.
For our desserts I tried the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. Seriously can we have a moment of silence for what was the gooiest, yummiest, most mouth-watering brownie I have had in ages!!!! My friend had the pecan tart with vanilla ice cream and she said that hands down it was the best pecan tart she had tasted.
Seriously if the description of the venue, the staff and the food do not have you running down there, then I hope that a quick mention of their Valentine menu will with their surprise and unique cocktails on offer during that period. Seriously book and go and if you don’t have a date go anyway or take me.
