The Trading House Review

P10253+The+Trading+House+180-Final+Web+Res+JPGArriving on Friday the 2nd of September at The Trading House near Moorgate Station, I was not surprised to find it full of people enjoying after work drinks. It was Friday evening after all and the gorgeous bar designed to look a West Indian Trading House definitely had the atmosphere to pull in crowds. While waiting for my friend, I gazed in wonder at the exquisite high ceiling, carved wooden panels and stuffed animals around the room. The bar is absolutely stunning and it’s worth the visit alone just to see it. Luckily we weren’t there just to gawk at the bar and as soon as my friend arrived, we were taken to a quieter part of the bar into the dining area.

With an extensive cocktail menu, it was extremely hard to choose which ones to try during our visit. In all honestly I could have happily sat there and sampled every single drink on the menu. With our lovely waitress’ suggestion, however, we ended up starting with KARMA’S A BITCH – £8.25 (Tanqueray gin and apricot served straight-up with homemade karma tea-infused syrup) and the EAST INDIAN PORNSTAR – £10.95 (Ketel One Vodka , passion fruit and blackcurrant liqueur mixed with red berry tea, served with rosé fizz). While I’d ordered KARMA’S A Bitch and my friend ordered the East Indian Pornstar, we ended up swapping due to my cocktail tasting like cinnamon.

We decided to share the Crispy Calamari for a starter and given the portion size, it was a good thing we did. Served with Piri Piri salt and lemon mayo, it was delicious. I definitely could have eaten this as a main and been happy with it.

When it came to mains, I definitely needed comfort food so went with the Pork Schnitzel with chips and peppercorn sauce. My friend chose one of the Hanging Chicken Kebabs served with seasoned chips. Both mains were amazing so tasty, however, it was the Hanging Kebab that stole the show as it was topped with sweet chilli, ginger and garlic butter.

I can never leave a venue without trying dessert so my friend decided to stick with a British classic of Sticky Toffee Pudding and I chose a Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough with salted caramel sauce and toffee ice cream. You can never go wrong with Sticky Toffee Pudding and this was no exception. But I was so glad my choice was the Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. One bite had memories of being in America on Holiday in 2012. It just melted in my mouth and was so full of goodness that I’m going back there just for dessert. We finished off an enjoyable night with another couple of cocktails with the highlight being the Tea Breeze. It was just so fruity and summery. A perfect twist to the classic Ice Tea.

So head down to The Trading House for dinner, drinks or a general good time. Or better yet, start organising your office Christmas party here. They’ve got packages ready to start planning your best work function yet.
