The Vestry Wine Master Class

The Vestry is one of my favourite wine venues in London so when I was invited back to visit on Friday Night I couldn’t say no. As soon as we arrived we were greeted with a glass of Bolney Rosé Wine. It was heaven in a glass and reminded me of my favourite Aussie Brand Rosé (Bird In Hand). It was definitely way too easy to drink. While drinking the wine, we learnt that Bolney Estate is an English winery located in Sussex. I didn’t even know England produced wine… let alone there being a winery between Gatwick and Brighton. The evening continued after we finished our Rosé with a four wines paired perfectly with delicious dishes made by The Vestry.

FullSizeRenderFirst up was the Lychgate White Wine paired with Pear Chutney, crackers and Blue Cheese. I usually hate chutney’s of any kind but this pair chutney paired with the wine was spectacular. I’ve found white wines served in the UK to be too dry and have that lingering aftertaste, however, the Lychgate White had none of that. It was crisp and fresh. Extremely pleasant after a long day in the office. I could definitely see myself curled up on the couch, reading a good book and sipping this wine with a contented smile on my face.

IMG_2162Next was the Eighteen Acre Rosé (sparkling) paired with Salami, cold meat and bread. This would have to have been one of my favourite wines of the evening. (Who am I kidding I loved them all!) This wine was perfection and I didn’t discourage the lovely host of the evening topping up my glass several times.

IMG_2163It wouldn’t be a wine tasting without trying a red so we moved on to the Lychgate Red paired with Steak and Chips. This wine was quite oaky and despite preferring white or Rosé wines, it was extremely easy to drink. The steak it was paired with was so flavoursome. Served cold so one could appreciate all the flavours of the olive oil dressing, it was a taste sensation party in my mouth.

IMG_2164Unfortunately we didn’t get to try the Bolney Bubbly, which was supposed to be our last wine of the evening. Given this, our final tasting consisted of a similar tasting bubbly was paired with The Vestry’s Mackerel Dip. The bubbly which I can’t remember the name of was delicious, though I would have paired it with one of The Vestry’s delicious desserts to make the end of our evening even more decadent than it already was.

We had such a fun evening and The Vestry should definitely continue with Wine Masterclasses, showcasing quality English wineries.Tickets were available to purchase for only 20 pounds! That is an absolute bargain for 5 wine and food pairings. Make sure you visit The Vestry soon. It’s a gorgeous wine bar with delicious wine, gorgeous food, friendly staff and an intimate setting that is perfect for date night or quiet drinks with friends.
