Viet Hoa Shoreditch: Review

Viet Hoa

Vietnamese food has always been one of my favourites, its fresh ingredients and subtle tastes are perfect for a nice lunch with friends.  Last week when a friend invited me out to lunch and recommended we try Viet Hoa on Kingsland High Road, I was excited. You can’t miss the Vietnamese strip on Kingsland High Road, it can be overwhelming which to choose, but they all have their unique signature dishes, so it’s well worth a visit.

The food we chose was very simple but yet the tastes were exquisite! We started with the Summer rolls, which are rolls of thin glass noodles filled with king prawns, cucumber and vermicelli noodles, the rolls came accompanied with a peanut sauce. The pairing was amazing, it tasted so good we ordered more.

For our main courses I ordered fish in tamarind sauce with rice, I was nervous that the tamarind would have been overpowering as I am not always a fan of sweet sauces. But the combination of the tamarind with the battered fish and the boiled rice was perfect. The flavours were so subtle that the normally overpowering tamarind was toned down; the fish was off set with chilli, so ever so often the taste was given a little spice which made it moreish. My friend ordered a cold noodle salad, it had chunks of chicken and also fried spring rolls with a chilli sauce. It is the perfect dish for a hot summers days like today and not too heavy that you will fall asleep at your desk.
