Viktor Wynd’s Cabinet of Curiosities

20141107_184131Helen: Shall we go in?

And we enter. It’s small, cramped and full of dapper gentlemen and elegant ladies.

We bypass the bar wanting to get to the main attraction. This is when we notice the walls adorned with strange yet skillful art and unlit display cabinets revealing an array of objects such as small rodent skulls…

But we know we haven’t reached the raison d’être. It’s good, but where is the meat of Viktor Wynd’s Cabinet of Curiosities…? Down that small yet perfectly formed spiral staircase…?

It is difficult to be certain without descending, but we were here, 11 Mare Street at the Last Tuesday Society and we were infinitely curious about what lay below.

As we descend mummified ants crawl over a half monkey half fish and the collection reveals itself. Unassuming but endlessly surprising… knitting moths, a dried dancing rat and Russell Brand’s pubes…

Helen: Hannah you have to see this? It’s a jar used condoms and viagra supposedly from a hotel room the Rolling Stones were staying at and here 20141107_184148is a taxidermy lion in a fez (very funny)

Hannah: Umm… I wonder if the children here realise there is a wall full of very flexible women in poses I’m not sure I can replicate….? Viktor Wynd is most definitely a curious creature.

Helen: I am not sure ‘that’ is anatomically possible.

An museum opening unexpected, but Viktor Wynd’s Cabinet of Curiosities is bound to become a fixture on the list of alternative tourist attractions of London.

There are so many objects and incredible sights that you may find yourself attempting the trip for a second, third or possibly fourth time, just to make sure that you have definitely seen all things and if anything is too much to handle there is always the bar on hand to grab a stiff drink!
