Immersive Cinema experts Press Play, delivered a notable screening of the Sidney Lumet screenplay adaptation, 12 Angry Men. Press Play surpassed expectation by transforming the Council Chamber of the defunct Bethnal Green Town Hall, now the Town Hall Hotel, into a courtroom for the night. The experience even extended to the ushers who were one of 12 angry men. It almost felt as though we were members of the jury for the night.

Our ticket included complimentary Propercorn and cocktails. We even had the opportunity to get stuck into some New York themed food, which was all delivered to our armchairs!!!

The film is the story of 12 male jurors entrusted with the power to send an uneducated, teenaged Puerto Rican boy to the electric chair for killing his father with a switchblade knife. They are literally locked into a small, claustrophobic jury room on a stifling hot summer day until they come up with a unanimous decision – either guilty or not guilty. The compelling, provocative film examines the twelve men’s deep-seated personal prejudices, perceptual biases and weaknesses, indifference, anger, personalities, unreliable judgments, cultural differences, ignorance and fears, that threaten to taint their decision-making abilities, cause them to ignore the real issues in the case, and potentially lead them to a miscarriage of justice.

Throughout the film I kept asking myself where I had been and why this film had not featured on my radar. Although made in 1957 I was amazed by how relevant the attitudes of the jurors and the issues raised where to modern day society!!! Not seen the film? Are you intrigued? Well what kind of a human being would I be to spoil your potential viewing by giving away the compelling conclusion to this gripping classic? Want to know how the film ends….well…..now that the weather has taken a turn I would highly recommend you dedicate an evening’s viewing to this film, you will not be disappointed.

However you don’t just want to watch it, you want to experience it! Well this screening was for one night only but Press Play specialise in immersive cinema so…..if you are interested in future offerings visit them at http://www.wepressplay.co.uk/
