‘What’s Next? Fighting For Women’s Rights in Afghanistan’ at Second Home Spitalfields (68-80 Hanbury Street, London, E1 5JL) on Wednesday 8th March, starting at 6pm.
The event will showcase the stories of Afghan women resisting the Taliban regime, as the dire situation worsens for women in the country day by day. Presented by British-Afghan journalist Ariana Abawe of Ariana Magazine, we will journey through the political resistance and incredible beauty of Afghan culture together.
Ariana will be joined by Afghan refugees and the diaspora tirelessly campaigning against the injustices waged by Taliban in their homeland. They include:
- Blind Afghan disability rights activist and co-founder of of Rahyab Organisation Benafsha Yaqoobi and her husband Mahdi Salami
- Footballer Sariah Nawrozi Mohseni
- Founder of Rahela Trust Rahela Sidiqi
- Former Afghan Judge Marzia Barbarkhail
The evening will also featuring live poetry from Afghan student and writer Hadisa Afzaly and a traditional Rubab performance by Zaiuallah Khan Yousofzai, as well as a fashion show by Afghan fashion brand MAC Store London Ltd and traditional Afghan food from Watani Box and desserts from Kulcha Kafe.
Tickets to the event are £12 and will be fully donated to the Rahela Trust – a charity that provides university scholarships and a leadership mentoring programme for women in rural Afghanistan to equip them to build a more progressive future society.
