WHO ARE YOU?

question mark

Identity is a fact of being who or what a person is (Google, 2013). Knowing who you are as an individual is a fundamental truth we should all be aware of. Being your self is equally important. Ever since I was teenager I noticed qualities about me; I was loud, out spoken, bubbly, curious and enthusiastic. These were qualities I was yet to find out (and still finding out) its real purpose. I use to love organising for various occasions, it came so naturally. When I became a mother, I became so vulnerable, all these qualities I was aware off weren’t so evident because I crawled into my shell and felt judged for being a single, young mother. I began to use these skills in our day to day lives; I made sure everything was in place and put things in order from baby group sessions to hospital appointments.

When I went to college I learnt about different things. I learnt about psychology, I learnt about compassion and I learnt about empathy. Once that chapter was closed I headed off to university and for those that have been you can all agree with me that this was not an easy transition for most of us. It is like that first time you live by yourself. Challenging!!! My time in university taught me incredibly about hardship, due to the nature of my course I spent most nights away from home, travelling or working long 12 hour shifts. I learnt how to work hard, pay attention to detail and mental strength. When the 3 years was over of being in such an institution, I felt lost, I wasn’t sure what I wanted, it was exhausting. It was then I decided to do some more travelling.

I spent months in Africa working with vulnerable people and some incredible teenage mothers. These individuals shared so much with me; they shared their vulnerabilities, their knowledge and shared a piece of themselves. I was so grateful. This experience gave me plenty to reflect on and with that set up www.divasondemand.co.uk and with this, I made new friends, rekindled with old ones and learnt how to manage a team. I learnt fundamental life skills through all the above experiences, I am yet to learn more and look forward to more challenges in life.

Now you’re probably thinking why is she telling us all of this (and believe me I could probably go on forever) but I am telling to remind you of all the experiences you have had to influence the person you are. Whether it was positive or negative it has impacted on your life, increased your skills base, changed your mindset and your reasoning. Life inflicts its own surprises whilst we work on ourselves and many others factors influence us. We are humans, we absorb external things thus choosing what and who you surround yourself with is vital.
