Bourne and Hollingsworth Bar Relaunched
On the 28th of September, I was invited along to the relaunch of Bourne & Hollingsworth beloved cocktail bar in Fitzrovia. Originally opened in 2007 at the height of vintage fashion, B&H group decided it was time for this quirky cocktail bar to get a face lift. While I unfortunately didn’t get to visit the original bar, I’m so thankful I got to visit to see their new design and experience some of the cocktails Bourne & Hollingsworth are famous for. My two friends who were visiting me from Australia accompanied me to the launch and were both extremely dazzled by the extent of Bourne and Hollingsworth’s impact on the London Cocktail scene.
We enjoyed sampling our way through the new cocktail list, which I was told has been updated while still maintaining old favourites. The Rebourne Redux (London dry gin, elderflower, fresh lemon and raspberry shaken and topped with Sicilian Lemonade), Pink Mojito (100% agave tequila, fresh lime and cranberry churned with mint), Rapunzel (Polish vodka churned with fresh lemon, mint and ginger) and the Fitzgerald (Rose petal vodka shaken with bitters, fresh lime and pomegranate topped with bubbles) were fabulous. I must admit all four of these cocktails went down way too easy. Definitely perfect cocktails to enjoy while catching up with friends.
I didn’t enjoy the Back in Black (Artisan coffee liqueur shaken with fresh espresso, Polish vodka and homemade winter spiced syrup) and the Love & Hate (Bourbon stirred with port, Muscavado and an artichoke bitter). This is more due to my love of fruity, sweet cocktails more than anything though.
Given that the original Bourne & Hollingsworth is situated at a basement level in Fitzrovia, it’s not a large bar. There’s only a capacity for 60 people and really, I hope they keep it this way. B&H Group could have easily moved the bar to a larger location with their relaunch but I don’t think it would have had the same charm as it does now. Make sure you head down to the bar with your friends after work and check out the launch. It would even make a perfect first date location as it has a fun and intimate ambiance that I’m sure will score many a brownie point.
