The Trafalgar Public House, Chelsea
I recently visited The Trafalgar Public House on the King’s Road, and it’s safe to say this is not your average pub. Fresh from a major refurbishment, it manages to feel both grand and genuinely welcoming – a buzzy spot on a Saturday night also.
Set in a beautiful old building that used to be a bank, the space immediately stands out. From the outside, the large arched windows give it a real presence, and inside it’s just as impressive. High ceilings, rich colours and a mix of classic and modern details make it feel polished but not overdone.
I went on the weekend, and the atmosphere was exactly what you’d want, busy, buzzy and full of energy. The place was packed, but in a good way. It had that lively, social feel that proper pubs should have, where you can just as easily pop in for a drink as settle in for a full meal.

We started with a mix of small plates, which set the tone for the rest of the meal. The in-season asparagus dish was fresh and simple, letting the quality of the ingredients speak for itself. Alongside that, the oxtail croquettes were a standout – rich, crispy on the outside and full of deep flavour. We also had oysters served with an elderflower mignonette, which felt like a slightly more refined twist and worked really well.
The food overall leans into British pub classics but with a more thoughtful, modern approach. It doesn’t feel like standard pub fare, it’s clearly been given more attention, without losing that comforting, familiar appeal. Drinks are just as well considered. Whether you’re in the mood for a proper pint, a glass of wine or a cocktail, there’s plenty of choice.
One of the most interesting parts of the pub is downstairs, where there’s a dedicated entertainment space. It adds a whole extra dimension, with live music, comedy nights and other events happening regularly.
Overall, The Trafalgar feels like a really exciting addition to Chelsea. It brings together great food, a lively atmosphere and a beautiful setting in a way that feels both elevated and approachable. I left already planning to come back, ideally on a Sunday next time, especially since I’ve heard the roasts (and apparently even the occasional celebrity sighting) are worth it!
