Weekend Dinner at COYA, Mayfair
Mayfair on the weekend is always a vibe, and COYA Mayfair delivers the kind of dining experience that feels effortlessly luxurious from the moment you arrive. Descending into the beautifully designed underground bar and restaurant immediately sets the tone for the evening – dim lighting, stylish interiors, vibrant music and an atmosphere buzzing with energy.
We started the evening with some cocktails and a selection of small plates that were packed with flavour. The Padron Peppers were simple but addictive, lightly blistered with just the right amount of sea salt, offering that classic balance of smokiness and freshness. Alongside them, the Wagyu Beef Gyoza were outstanding – perfectly crisp on the outside while remaining delicate and juicy inside.
The highlight of the starters, however, was undoubtedly the Classic Sea Bass Ceviche. Served with leche de tigre, red onion, sweet potato and jumbo corn, the dish was incredibly fresh and vibrant. The citrus marinade had a nice level of sharpness, enhancing the delicate flavour of the sea bass without overpowering it. The sweet potato added a welcome softness and sweetness, while the crunchy jumbo corn brought texture and authenticity to the dish.
For mains, we chose the Crispy Octopus and the Spicy Beef Fillet, both of which were exceptional in completely different ways. The octopus was cooked well – tender in the centre with a beautifully crisp exterior. Paired with smooth potato mousse, botija olives and smoked paprika, it was a dish full of depth and richness while still feeling refined and elegant. The smoky flavours worked brilliantly against the subtle saltiness of the olives.
The Spicy Beef Fillet was equally impressive and packed with bold flavour. Cooked beautifully tender, the beef was coated in a delicious Chinese chilli and garlic sauce that delivered heat without overwhelming the dish. The crispy shallots added crunch and sweetness, while the pickled chilli gave a sharp contrast that kept every bite interesting.
Beyond the food, what really makes COYA special is the atmosphere. The music created a vibrant energy throughout the evening without being overpowering, and the service was attentive, polished and friendly from start to finish. The underground setting gives the restaurant an exclusive, hidden-gem feel, adding to the overall experience.
