Roy’s People: Street Life
Roy’s People: Street Life is the first solo exhibition from artist Roy Tyson at Curious Duke Gallery. Sculptures of miniature people are transposed into every-day situations, but with a playful and humorous twist.
These adventurous creations include tiny men kayaking on a spilled cup of coffee and a man rowing on a cigarette butt. The theme of discarded everyday objects being used in a different manner might be a comment on the general sense of waste in today’s society. Some of these pieces can be seen here.
These surreal worlds are completely open for interpretation and no two people will see the same thing. This is a real strength of this type of art as it provokes a lively debate and more often than not a chuckle. This playful exhibition brings you back to childhood with the infinite possibilities of these tiny people’s worlds. It also makes you appreciate the beautiful visuals of objects that have been discarded. This exhibition runs from 3rd-26th April.
On 17th April 2014, Roy will be hiding his little people all over Hoxton and Shoreditch for Londoners to stumble on and take home. This fun and interactive event will involve everyday passers-by and is in collaboration with the Big Issue to help raise awareness for the charity.
The Curious Duke Gallery is owned by Eleni Duke, who is passionate about their exhibitions and making this a vibrant, fun gallery. This exhibition fits with her playful vision and she even toyed with the idea of brewing her own lager in the gallery. This small gallery is a 5 minute walk from Old Street Station and is seconds away from a host of bars and restaurants for when you leave the gallery.
