An Eclectic Season of Live Music in the Heart of Nine Elms
With Spring in full swing and long summer evenings on the horizon, World Heart Beat Embassy Gardens unveils a dynamic programme of jazz, classical, electronic, blues, orchestral, rock and global music to satisfy any eclectic music taste. Audiences can look forward to performances from internationally renowned artists, emerging new talent as well as gifted, young World Heart Beat students all coming together under one roof in the heart of Nine Elms, Battersea.
Jazz in the Gardens
The Jazz in the Gardens series, showcasing jazz concerts on Friday nights from world-class jazz musicians to rising stars, includes:
- Grammy Award-winning Jean Toussaint Quintet formerly of Art Blakey’s ‘Jazz Messengers’ returns to Embassy Gardens
- award-winning, London-based jazz bass player, composer and arranger Misha Mullov-Abbado Group
- Tony Kofi Quartet: one of the UK’s finest alto saxophonists, known for his powerful sound, fearless improvisation, and deep-rooted jazz connection
- Zeeks and the Brotherhood spanning jazz, R&B, soul, funk, Latin and gospel, with a strong grounding in straight-ahead jazz and modern improvisation
- Julian Joseph: 60th Birthday Concert – hailed as one of the finest jazz pianists to emerge on this side of the Atlantic, Julian Joseph performing jazz classics as well as his own original compositions.
Spring/summer programme
- Celebrant: Tom Irvine (Opener: Judith Parts) a unique blend of indie-folk song-writing and classical composition
- The 286 (Opener: Sian Kelly) genre-spanning rock orchestra from London, blending guitar-driven rock with the elegance of classical music
- Ruth Naomi Floyd Quartet with special guest Julian Joseph award-winning vocalist and composer Ruth Naomi Floyd presents Music for the Soul, a powerful jazz program that weaves sacred reflection with historical remembrance, alongside Julian Joseph
- Rana Farhan: Persian Soul blending the rich oral traditions of Persia with the rich oral traditions that originated in black, American culture.
Heart Beat student programme
- Windrush Day: Carrying the Flame reflecting the rich cultural fabric of Wandsworth, curated by Ava Joseph and Ayo Vincent including influence from the genres of Reggae, Ska, Calypso, and Jazz
- 51st State Band + 51st State Big Band World Heart Beat’s flagship youth band, showcasing the vitality and dedication that Heart Beat students really thrive on
- Gig Band Special featuring World Heart Beat’s keyboard/piano players, bassists, guitarists, vocalists and drummers.
Supporting World Heart Beat Music Academy
With every ticket brought, concertgoers are treated to an engaging night of music in a truly unique setting, whilst also helping to nurture the next generation of talent at World Heart Beat Music Academy. This is done via the charity’s bursary scheme, which opens doors for young musicians who face financial or social barriers and provides the chance to find their voice through the power of music.
