Artisan Drinks Gin Cruise Review

Last night we visited the first Artisan Drinks Gin Cruise. We had a nice time meeting fellow gin lovers and the Gins on board were good but there were a few issues on the night that will hopefully be sorted out by the time the next cruise sets sail.

We were promised a menu of 15 Gins, however, there was only a menu of 6 gin and tonics available on the night. It appears the 15 Gins are spread over the different cruises. So keep an eye out on Artisan Drinks Twitter to make sure you book in on the cruise with the Gin you’re dying to try.

On the night we were able to try Two Birds Gin, Poetic Licence Gin, Batch Gin and Blackwoods Gin. I’ve tried Two Birds and Batch before but Blackwoods and Poetic Licence we’re new to me. We would have loved to hear more about each of the Gins available and about each perfect serve. Unfortunately, due to some technical problems this wasn’t able to be facilitated.

We were fortunate enough to hear about Poetic Licence Distillery and it’s a gin I’ll be checking out more of.

On to the Gins and Tonics now, my friend’s favourite was the Two Birds Rhubarb Gin with Indian Tonic Water garnished with Apple and Strawberries. I’d have to admit this was my favourite too! It was nice having a chance to try the Gins straight before hand and then experience them in their perfect serve. Something I always try encourage my friends to do before they drink a G&T.

In terms of food, the Sushi was lovely but feedback from the guests we were sitting with was that they were expecting Tapas with a Spanish twist and Gin inspired. I love sushi so I wasn’t too phased by this change in menu.

Despite a few of the problems with some wait staff, we did see organisers trying to make sure everyone was having a good time and with drinks in their hands. With over 80 people on board, not an easy job to do.

Overall there were a variety of mixed opinions on board, with some really enjoying the cruise and getting to drink Gin and Tonics on a Friday night… others were left a little disgruntled about the wait between drinks and the promised goody bag of miniatures and a Copa Glass not being received. We did receive one miniature gin which will be used to make our own perfect serve at home.

This is an event that could be improved on, because it’s a great idea and as the weather improves could be the evening out that’s not only enjoyable but one that isn’t forgotten.
