London’s summer sun will be here before we know it and with it comes Jimmy Garcia’s acclaimed BBQ Club riverside dining experience. The BBQ Club promises an extra sprinkling of fun alongside the mouth-watering menu popping up at London’s Southbank Centre. This is the third summer Jimmy and his team will be appearing by the river and are introducing a new concept; Patch & Picnic. Customers will have the chance to soak-up the rays in their own riverside patch at Southbank Centre, playing classic British outdoor games such as croquet and Swingball, whilst indulging in a special BBQ Club hamper, packed with alfresco goodies.
Launching on Saturday 3rd May 2019 the split-level, riverside summer eatery features a walk-up BBQ Bar showcasing incredible dishes straight from the grill and the BBQ Club rooftop restaurant. Adjacent to the main restaurant area will be Patch & Picnic, with bookable games areas and pre-ordered hampers featuring delicious dishes from the Patch & Picnic kitchen. Alternatively, guests will be able to bring their own food to enjoy in their patch by the Thames.
Once again breaking the mould with their innovative BBQ dishes, the upstairs BBQ Club interactive seven course tasting menu will include dishes such as Maple hot smoked sea trout, Duo of lamb – lamb cutlet & lamb ribs, Spiced roast baby cauliflower and of course for the vegetarians there are the likes of Spiced ginger & lemongrass baby aubergines, Maple smoked tofu and Halloumi & red pepper skewers. Upstairs there will be a private bar where guests can enjoy refreshing gin concoctions, chilled beer, or bottles of wine.
The walk-up BBQ Bar will be serving super-fresh and speedy BBQ dishes such as Grilled Halloumi Burgers, Harissa Chicken Thighs and of course the Signature Burger, to name just a few. All smoked and grilled on Green Egg BBQs, these dishes are ideal for a those who fancy a quick bite to eat on the go.
This year at The BBQ Club Monday nights are no longer the worst night of the week! Throughout the summer the team on Southbank will be sharing some of their secrets on butchery and barbeque in interactive demonstrations on Monday nights throughout the run. With help from our very own butcher and the chefs from The Barbeque Club, Monday night sessions will be a course in preparing, marinating smoking and cooking your own BBQ feast, with recipes (and the skills) to take home and recreate your own incredible summer BBQ!
Also joining us throughout the summer are some of our favourite restaurants and chefs for one night only guest events. Chefs from some of the most innovative restaurants in London will be joining us and showing us a different style of BBQ as they cook their own menus on our rooftop terrace.
For those enjoying the rays in more casual settings over at the Patch & Picnic area, the pre-bookable hampers are available filled with a selection of artisan breads, BBQ spiced chicken thighs, British cheeses with crackers and fruit chutney, ham hock terrine, Goose rillette, tabbouleh, hot smoked trout and of course strawberries and cream! Other picnics don’t have a patch on our Social Butterfly picnic hamper. Options of games to get competitive with include Giant Jenga, Boules, Skittles, Beach Tennis and Swingball.
Each patch is bookable for 6 – 12 people for a minimum of 70 minutes. We take a deposit when booking which works as a minimum spend for your group and can be used to purchase drinks or food. You’re also welcome to bring your own food if you prefer (regrettably not your own drinks though).
Staying hydrated in the Summer sun is made all the easier with the downstairs bar situated in central London’s bustling riverside location at Southbank Centre, serving a dazzling selection of G&Ts, beers and ciders, so even those that aren’t dining can still enjoy watching the light fade over the London skyline with a drink in hand.
