Breakfast at M Restaurant

M resturant - 2

Situated in the middle of the city near Bank station tucked away down Threadneedle Walk is what we have dubbed the “the breakfast revolution” made by M restaurant. Perfect for city folk for a power breakfast meeting or just a beautiful place to hang out with friends and family, M offers beauty, elegance and amazing food.

Walking in to M Restaurant I forgot it was 9:30am on a Thursday morning and I had a day full of meetings ahead of me when I saw the beautiful décor. The art deco staircase and the elegant black theme made what I thought was going to be a bog standard day, feel really important and quite significant (I promise you that great décor can do that).

The food was even more amazing than the look and feel of the place. We started off our breakfast with one of the restaurants breakfast juices, realising that we both needed to detox a little we opted for the ‘The Refresher’ which was a mix of apple, cucumber, lime with a hint of mint. The combination was so perfect that my friend and I decided it was too good to drink first and pushed our juices to the side to savour later. In its stead I opted for a breakfast tea with a soya milk, I am going to digress momentarily, the soya milk (yes I am talking about milk) was beautiful, it had a rich nuttiness and creaminess that I am not used to from soya alternatives, the milk added a depth to my tea that normally only comes from creamers.

Back to the meal, I chose the ‘M’ Breakfast, which was pork belly rashers, pork sausage, hash brown, coal cooked tomatoes, smoked baked beans with two poached eggs. The poached eggs were spot on, there have been many times when I have experienced poached egg disasters and this quite smugly wasn’t one of them. The beans were seasoned and I had to ask the waitress what was in them, the chef uses chakalaka which is a South African chilli. Do not fear it does not make them spicy at all, but instead provides a depth of flavour. My friend went for the Smoked Salmon and Scrambled eggs, she was convinced that the eggs had something in them as she described them as fluffy and light. Again we called the waitress over (very patient staff did I mention that), who informed us that the eggs were just cooked in olive oil. We both took a moment to appreciate the chef’s amazing ability. I say this as we have all been there with the rubbery or runny scrambled eggs with no taste.

Without creating a 10 page dissertation saluting our breakfast, all we can say is try it out. We give M a 10/10 for amazing staff, great food and also just a calm and tranquil environment which is not always available in the city.
