For the May half term our little family had the pleasure of heading to the Butlins Wave Hotel for a weeks stay. We stayed at Butlins last year and enjoyed our stay at the Shoreline hotel and this time we wanted to try a different hotel. Would this hotel live up to our expectations?

The first thing you notice is just how bright and bold the Wave is compared to the Shoreline last year. It feels fresh and relaxed. We arrived at 12 and managed to park three spaces from the entrance but I would imagine it gets full up pretty quickly. Check in was from 12 so right on time and I like to check in straight away and when I passed check in 30 minutes later the queue was about 20 families deep.

The check in staff were very helpful and explained about the dining and gave us our tickets for the shows and our room keys and went through the timings of breakfast and dinner which is served at The Deck which is just across the path. So a quick hop in the lift and to floor 4 we headed.

Once you get to the room you again notice how bright the room decor is, and for more much more geared towards the Shoreline hotel if not quite as big as the Nelson’s Stateroom that we had.  To show you around the room I thought it was better to show you in the form of a video.

The room was completely clean as you’d expect and it was also stocked with essentials like hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge, towels and toiletries. All of which were replaced on a daily basis by housekeeping. On the occasion what we saw a member of hotel staff they always went out of their way to say hello and talk to the girls.

Located in the hotel was a booking point where you could make reservations to other restaurants and I suggest doing this at the very earliest moment as within hours Papa John’s was booked up till Thursday and Turner’s only had a few spaces here and there.

On the ground floor of the hotel you’ll find a games area which we has a look around but the girls seemed a little too young for enjoy this but one place they did enjoy was the little Coffee shop. You’ll easily find something for lunch or a little snack there. Too be honest we ate there most lunchtimes because it was quiet and calm and gave a few minutes rest. They stock various sandwiches there and also toasted panni but the real winner for us was the cakes…they all tasted so delicious.

An added bonus is the fact you also get 24 hour WiFi which we loved.

As part of our stay we had the Premium Dining package which included breakfast and dinner. As I mentioned earlier breakfast is served at The Deck which is just next to the hotel. The breakfast is set up as a buffet service and you really can get everything you’ll ever want. Most days I had a full cooked breakfast, but they had pancakes, fruit, cereals and omelettes made to order. They really did cater for all needs and diets.

We also ate at The Deck for dinner a couple of times but I’ll save that for our post on the food at Butlins.

Our overall experience of the Butlins Wave Hotel and thoughts was that it was very family friendly and clean and fresh.
