Carlotta Reiki Review

I’m going to start this review with what I told Carlotta whilst she was conducting a virtual distance Reiki session through Zoom. Basically I’m a skeptic when it comes to alternative healing methods. My friends who have seen me (and laughed at me) during meditation sessions can also attest that I’m basically ADHD when it comes to these kind of sessions. I really do struggle with them. I’m telling you this, because after the end of the session I was a lot less skeptical and I couldn’t believe how good I felt. Before I go into that further, I’m going to tell you a little bit more about Carlotta and Reiki.

Carlotta, is a qualified Reiki Practitioner working in Hackney, East London. She grew up in a small village in Italy and has been travelling the world since she was young. Since leaving Italy, she’s lived in Istanbul, South Africa and London (which is where I had the pleasure of meeting her). I remember Carlotta telling me how she discovered Reiki earlier this year and how it was a lovely happenstance. In Spring 2018,  after a solo trip through Cambodia full of self-discovery she was looking for some inspirational reads in her parents’ library, when she was  drawn to a
book named Reiki: Universal Life Energy by B.J. Baginski and S. Sharamon – Carlotta states ”I was not sure why I’d never noticed it before, but I started to read it.I was immediately mesmerised. Reading words that I didn’t event know existed and discovering things that I always felt were there, suddenly everything became clear and familiar. It was never planned, but I knew I had to continue with my discovery, and I took Reiki 1 and Reiki 2
courses in London. I feel so privileged to be practicing it and I can truly say it has transformed my life”

Carlotta managed to convince me that Reiki was something I should try and I was ready to go visit her in her Hackney Studio, until Coronavirus put a stop to all that. All hope was not lost though as Carlotta informed me that Reiki has the same effects over distance and was keen to show me through a virtual Reiki Session. She told me that “a distant session is as effective as face-to-face one, even though it doesn’t include any physical touch. Before a distant Reiki treatment, the practitioner needs the name and location of the person in order to tune in – I personally like to do distant healing via Skype or Zoom, so I can create an e-connection with the person, but this is not necessary. I always play some relaxing music and my Tibetan bowl at the end, and I ask the patient to relax and feel and observe the sensation in the body during the session, as I would do with a face-to- face one”.First though, I should probably explain what Reiki is. “Reiki is an ancient healing technique which balances the energy flow within the body, treating
physical, mental and emotional unbalance. Reiki is a non-intrusive practice, which brings a sense of peace and connection within the Universe
and your Inner Self, clearing out energetic blockages and accelerating the body’s own ability to heal. It is something that is to be experienced and felt rather than explained. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice, and it is not aiming to substitute any traditional medicine. However, it can be used alongside clinical treatment”.  Reiki was rediscovered and developed in Japan by Miako Usui in the early 1920’s to 1939. So it’s been around for a some time and the history is definitely interesting if you want to learn more.

Reiki is a personal experience and every session is different for each individual. My experience went like this… As I said I went in skeptical that I would not stop thinking and would not be able to relax as that is my usual pattern, however, I had the exact opposite reaction. Carlotta’s simple calming influence and practice, actually had me super relaxed and I came out feeling a lot calmer and tense. It was almost like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. I felt tingly and could almost visualise and the tension coming off me in waves. Strange but true!

I actually can’t wait now until everything is back to normal so I can go visit Carlotta in person and try a physical session. Because I may have just found something that can help me wind down and just be in the moment.
