Eastway Brasserie – Relaxed dining in the heart of the city

Friday evening I had the pleasure of visiting Eastway Brasserie, one of Andaz London’s six dining venues. The main dining area with comfortable leather seating, features a focal open kitchen and bar with large windows, and industrial lighting. You will also find chic LED  lit communal bar tables and an intimate lounge area. Asides from striking industrial style pillars and monochrome portraits, the otherwise neutral hues are lifted by the vibrant coloured walled bar, it shelves glistening bottles, herbs and botanical plants.

The dinner menu offers classic British and European inspired dishes. My dining companion and I opted for a refreshing light Aperol Gin Spritz aperitif to accompany our starter of Crab Scotch egg and Gin and Tonic Salmon, which were beautifully presented bursting with vibrant colour. The scotch egg was delicately seasoned cut open to reveal a perfect soft boiled egg; paired with mango salsa, curried aioli & coriander to give an Asian twist to a quintessential British dish. As avid G & T lovers we were excited to try the salmon starter, the dish served up an array of textures with delicious melt in the mouth chunks of salmon. The aromatic flavours of the dill complimented the citrus lemon gel, although disappointedly no distinct gin flavours stood out.

Our well presented mains offered a myriad of texture and flavours, fish cooked to perfection with crisp skins and delicate flaky flesh. The Roast Stone Bass perched on-top of octopus cassoulet with a salsa Verde dressing had punchy pronounced flavours. The light smoky tomatoes sauce contrasted well with the strong herby flavours from the verde and saltiness from the scattering of crushed olives.

Whilst my dining companion loved the flavoursome Bass dish, I preferred the Pan Seared Salmon topped with white crab meat, served with sautéed spinach arranged on top of a bed of mussels. The flavours were subtle; the saltiness from the mussel sauce paired well with the lightly seasoned salmon whilst the crab and cherry tomatoes added a sweetness to the dish.

Dessert lovers will adore the small but decadent baked strawberry and vanilla cheesecake. It offered a rich creamy consistency with sweetness from the white chocolate, fresh strawberries & strawberry coulis. We also tried a vegan Chocolate and Coconut Panna Cotta served with berries and toasted coconut. Whilst the chocolate layer had a rich depth and slight silkiness, the coconut layer was firm with a jelly like consistency and texture. Although the texture didn’t quite work, the flavours paired well.

Service was attentive and if you’re looking for a place for after work drinks, you would be happy to know they have happy hour from 5pm – 8pm during the week.
