La Ventana Review

I thought I had found the best tapas restaurant in London, when I came across La Farola, you can read the review here. So when I found out Spanish restaurant, La Ventana recently opened up in Dalston and are from the people behind La Forola, I had to go and see if this could be the second best Tapas restaurant in London, or indeed be better than La Forola!

La Ventana is pretty spacious, the decor is modern, with wooden tables and a spectacular bar. Latin music was playing when I arrived and the vibe on a Sunday evening was quite buzzy. I received a very warm welcome from the staff from the moment I waked in and throughout my dining experience, they offered great recommendations and I could genuinely see how much they loved the food La Ventana had to offer.

First up we had the Pimientos del padron: pan fried little Galician peppers served with sea salt, they were tasty and just the thing to whet my appetite. Next to follow was the Croquetas de pollo: roasted chicken croquets served with ali oil sauce, they were crisp and golden on the outside and nice and creamy on the inside. This was my all time favourite dish, I have always been a huge fan of croquets and La Ventana didn’t disappoint.

The Empanadillas, were a real treat, deep fried filo pastry filled with roasted pine nuts, spinach and goat cheese, served with avocado guacamole. The filo pastry had a nice crispy texture and inside was bursting with all different flavours, this is a must-have when you order. I could have easily ordered another portion.

We also got the Courgette Flowers in tempura, stuffed with goat cheese and drizzled with honey, a good option for the non meat eaters.

The dessert menu is packed with some incredible sweet offerings, I opted for the Pudin Pegajoso: dates sticky pudding served with a toffee and walnut sauce and vanilla ice cream. I can only say if you are a fan of sticky toffee pudding, opt for the Pudin Pegajoso, it will blow you away. It was sweet, gooey and heavenly oh and much better than a sticky toffee pudding, which I didn’t think was possible as thats my all time favourite dessert!

News has it La Ventana will be hosting salsa nights, so keep your eyes peeled. You will also be pleased to know La Ventana offers three selected tapas for only £12 during lunchtime, you couldn’t ask for better than that.
