A Countryside-style Stay in the Centre of London

Visit Lime Tree Hotel for a slice of the countryside in Belgravia

You know, there are just some times when you just have to get out of London. However, I have found the perfect little refuge, meaning you don’t need to board that train to get a slice of the serenity that our majestic countryside offers. In fact, you just need to head down to Victoria!

Lime Tree Hotel is a stunningly historic townhouse hotel combining the laid-back warmth of a Georgian family home with up-to-date styling and the friendliest service.

Upstairs there are 26 bedrooms that offer a haven from busy days out around town. Downstairs you’ll find a pretty walled garden, restful lounge and in-house café-style restaurant, The Buttery, providing guests with delicious breakfasts and a lovely space to recharge and socialise during the day.

On entry, we were blown away by the friendly ‘home away from home’ atmosphere, and after checking in and taking a look at our pretty and ornate digs, we felt rested and rejuvenated already. Sadly, The Buttery isn’t open in the evenings but there were no shortage of nice pubs nearby to grab a dinner or refreshing beverage. We’d highly recommend The Ganymede which is actually right next door and their vibrant array of cocktails!

Once your meanderings are over, you can head back to your sanctuary at The Lime Tree for an evening of chill. The feeling that you’re in a countryside property is highlighted by the two century old nature of the building. Some rooms have high ceilings, creaky floorboards and open fireplaces.

We tucked in for the evening and watched our Netflix movies, even having room service deliver a crisp glass of wine. Best of all, our room had an air conditioning unit, which was a thoughtful addition during London’s heat wave!

After a restful night’s sleep, we woke up charmed and serene after a beautiful stay. The amenities in the bathroom were also second to none, offering the full range of products needed for an overnight stay, with great scents and an indulgent feel to them.

The Buttery

The next morning, we were able to enjoy the delights of The Buttery. If the hotel is quaint and pretty, the garden at The Buttery will really blow you away. Think picket fence, and quirky sheds, fresh flowers and mowed grass.

The Buttery itself is rustic-chic and the laid-back menus offer delicious breakfasts, brunch favourites and seasonal lunch plates, complemented by the finest London-roasted coffee from The Gentlemen Baristas, a selection of classic cocktails and a wine list featuring produce from some of the pre-eminent British vineyards.

Once settled in and introduced to the menu by the friendly team, we both opted for a full English with iced coffees and spicy bloody Mary’s – the perfect way to start off the weekend. The food was fresh and delicious – you could tell the ingredients were sourced locally and to the highest standard. There were no tinned foods in sight, as the team make their own butter bean baked beans instead.

There’s a full range of juices and smoothies to also enjoy and all the dishes you would expect from a great breakfast spot include Eggs anyway you want, and Shakshouka. There were no complaints here, and the service was fast, attentive and super informative. I would definitely come back here for breakfast or lunch.

Overall, my stay at The Lime Tree Hotel was nothing short of perfect. There is an absence of a bar or restaurant for the evenings, but as mentioned, Victoria is now a bustling neighbourhood with plenty of options, then you can return to the comfort of your plush bed to catch some Z’s.
