New Opening London: Darbaar

The first review I wrote was for Onin London was for the Cinnamon Kitchen Restaurant. Therefore, when I was sent out to attend the Launch Party for Darbaar (the first solo project of the former Cinnamon Club and Kitchen Head Chef, Adbul Yasseen), I knew I’d be in for an awesome night. I wasn’t wrong! From the minute you walk into Darbaar, you are met with sophistication, style and class. Abdul’s dream to revive what could have been lost in the modern world and to create food that inspires people to share has finally come to fruition after 16 months of planning. Looking throughout the restaurant during the evening, it was easy to see the brains behind Darbaar have certainly pulled out all the stops. No small detail has been forgotten, from the décor to the table decorations, even the bathrooms indicate no expenses have been spared. I can safely say I’ve never been to a restaurant in Australia where the toilet seats were heated and the toilets were like fancy robot toilets.

My friend Rodney and I were welcomed into the bar section of the restaurant with a delightful cocktail made from blue curacao and prosecco. It didn’t take much to convince us to head to the bar for seconds and I can safely say these deliciously simple cocktails will be making an appearance on Christmas day. If cocktails aren’t your thing, there was also a huge wine selection and beers on tap.

After sneaking a third cocktail when the extremely lovely staff in their gorgeous uniforms glided by us carrying a tray of my new favourite beverage, we were informed it was time to venture into the dining room. The dining room was stunning and the trays of food that the hard working chefs and kitchen staff were dishing out, looked equally amazing.

The launch party provided party goers with an opportunity to enjoy canapes from the starter, mains and dessert sections of the menu. All of the food was superb and true to Adbul Yasseen’s world he really does bring the sophistication of the spice blend to western cooking. The salmon was to die for and I greedily went back for seconds and thirds. So make sure you try this when you head out for some fine dining. All staff were friendly and attentive, however, my only concern is that some of the staff were a little unsure of what was gluten free or not. Despite this, they were quick to find out this information for us so my friend was also able to enjoy plenty of the food that was offer.

This Aussie in London will certainly be headed out for dinner at Darbaar again soon as you can fault a resturant with fantastic food, fabulous cocktails, great service and a friendly atmosphere. Abdul Yasseen and everyone else involved, you definitely have created something to proud of.
