OX44 Gin Review

OX44 gin is a handcrafted London Dry gin from the UK. It is produced by Chalgrove Artisan Distillery, the home of OX1 and OX4. This artisan distillery makes its gins in the beautiful countryside of rural Oxfordshire. Indeed, OX44 takes its name from the postcode it is produced in.

To create Oxford Dry Gin, a neutral grain spirit which is 96% Alcohol By Volume (ABV) is used. The base botanicals of juniper berries and coriander are macerated for 24 hours before the selected botanicals- Black peppercorn, cardamom and Angelica root – are added. After the distillation the gin is stored for five days to allow an infusion of flavours. The use of a copper alembic still ensures that a premium product is created.

Now OX44 may look slightly hazy, especially when added to your choice of tonic. This is because although the gin is filtered, it is not chill-filtered, meaning the flavours are retained. The result of this retention of natural oils is a hazy looking gin.

OX44 has pine, juniper spice and citrus lemon tones, making it an extremely smooth gin. It also has an unusual botanical… heather. None of the botanicals are overwhelming in scent or taste, and they work well together to create a balanced gin.

A delicious way to enjoy OX44 is to add some Indian tonic water and Pop A Ball lemon flavoured bubbles. These juicy bubbles burst in your mouth, and perfectly complemented the citrus tones of OX44.

OX44 Gin can be yours for £25 (35cl) or £40 (70cl). They, along with OX1 and OX4, can be purchased from the Chalgrove Artisan Distillery website.
