REVIEW: Afternoon Tea at The Arch London

ArchLondon_May2016-1

It goes without saying, afternoon tea is a special treat, it’s usually booked for a loved one’s birthday or to treat ourselves while catching up with a good friend, and hear at On In London we celebrate that! However there are so many options out there, it can be difficult to choose the perfect one.

This month The Arch London took our fancy, it opened in 2010, a modern and beautiful boutique hotel, hidden away behind Marble Arch, so easy to get to, yet far away from the hustle and bustle of the busy shopping district. The restaurant / bar is modern and luxurious, containing two private booths and beautiful crockery fit for a very stylish queen.

Afternoon tea starts at £25 per person, which is great for what you get and if you would like a glass of champagne it costs £38. So what do you get with it I hear you cry? well ladies The Arch London doesn’t disappoint!

The savoury delights include: Rare roast beef, horseradish, watercress and crispy shallots, Honey baked ham and piccalilli, Egg mayonnaise and mustard cress, Stilton cheese straws and Chicken liver parfait with spice fig chutney. The honey baked ham and piccalilli sandwich was by far my favourite, the bread was fresh and soft and the fillings tasted divine. parfait lovers you will love the Chicken liver parfait which was teamed up with finger toasted bread.

The dessert selection presented in front of us was what I can only describe as ‘what sweet dreams are made of’, it came with plain and fruit scones, accompanied with strawberry jam and clotted cream, which as you know when paired together, tastes sweet and utterly delicious.

You also get Battenberg, Strawberry and pistachio tart, Macaroons, Eton mess and Chocolate orange tea cake. As a chocolate fan, the orange tea cake was the quickest to go, but before I sat there disappointed that it was all gone I dived into the rest of the sweet delights. The serving is generous and both myself and my friend couldn’t possibly finish it all, the staff kindly boxed our treats for us to have later.

I’ve experienced a few Afternoon Teas at hotels now and I’m happy to say that The Arch London ticked all the boxes, now it’s only another 5 months until my birthday, so I know where I’ll be requesting we all go!

The Arch London is celebrating Her Majesty’s milestone and 2016’s busy Royal calendar of events with the above new menu, known as the patriotic Royal Afternoon Tea until 7th July 2016.
