Royal China Review

The Royal China group consists of five top central London locations including the luxurious and critically-acclaimed Royal China Club and its known for honouring authentic traditional, exceptional Chinese food. Located in prime areas of London such as Baker street, Bayswater, Fulham and Canary Wharf.

We recently visited the Canary Wharf branch, which overlooked the Thames, which was a nice treat. We received a warm welcome when we arrived and was promptly taken to our table. Inside you are greeted with elegant décor, with contrasting rich golden hues and striking red and black features, along with the lacquered murals depicting an ornate Chinese illustration, which was nice to admire.

The restaurant serves traditional Hong Kong Chinese food, with over 50 dishes to pick from it was hard to decide. The menu features photography for most of the popular dishes, which certainly helped in deciding what to order.

For starters we had the grilled vegetarian spring roll, which were bigger than your average spring roll, the texture was nice and crispy on the outside and nice filling on the inside! We also ordered the prawn dumplings from the Dim Sum menu and they were honestly so soft and moist that I could have ordered another round.

For the mains we got two main plates to share, the sautéed chicken with peppers & black Bean Sauce was severed with just the right amount of seasoning, the chicken was tender and overall tasted good.

My favourite main was the sweet & sour king prawns. The prawns were huge! which I must say was impressive and they were cooked to perfection.

For desserts, we found the selection pretty limiting, which was a shame. We opted for the freshly baked egg tarts, which really lived up to its name. We waited 20 minutes for them to be baked, and they were certainly worth the wait, fresh out of the oven and scrumptious.

Royal China is renowned for its Dim Sum which is served daily (12pm-5pm) including its tasty steamed seafood dumplings and pan-fried fillet of breast rolls. If you prefer a set menu, you may want to opt for the seven-course tasting menu. We shall be back!
