The Cake and Bake Show 2014

The Cake and Bake Show

Last weekend Earls Court was home to The Cake and Bake Show 2014, the famous roadshow for amateur and professional bakers alike. So why was I there you wonder, especially after writing how much I hate cooking and my inability to bake? Well I’m the separate group of visitors to The Cake and Bake Show, the group that loves to stuff their faces with pastries and sweet treats. You can imagine how excited I was when my friend told me that she wanted us to go to Earls Court, I squealed!

On entering the show the first thing that hit me was the scale, it was huge! I didn’t realise all the various components that came with baking, it was beautiful. I was in bakers heaven, right there and then I wanted to grab a baking tray and make brownies. (Very American but I’m not actually sure what cakes are baked in)

Everyone who was anyone was at the show. There were live demos from every angle, as well as new upcoming businesses who are entering the market. One of the stands that caught my eye was the flavoured butter stand, butter infused with every flavour possible from garlic to rosemary. They looked good, but I opted out of tasting them as I am a butter fiend and would have set up camp right there.

I was also mesmerised by the Chocolate factories stand, a whole stand of objects made from chocolate. I was impressed by the chocolate cameras and the full on toolbox made from pure chocolate. The stand was engrossed with chocolate addicts wanting to purchase a cheeky edible rabbit or sheep.

The Cake and Bake Show

The famous (well famous in Brixton) Ms Cupcake was there with her amazing vegan cupcakes and cookies. I have worked in Brixton for nearly 8 years and she is like an icon in the area. If you want to eat cake and pretend to feel less guilty, then that’s where you head. We love that she uses alternative milks to create her cakes which create their extraordinary flavour.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to see the big demos as I found myself indulging in the Dr Oteker demo on how to decorate cakes. Not that I was going to decorate one, however I loved watching the intricacy in the detail and also the speakers passion.

The second stand I got stuck at, which probably needs a page of its own was the ‘Cake Boss’ stand. I always thank the TV angels for creating TLC and allowing me to be addicted to a burly Italian who loves to make sweet treats. The stand was heaving! I couldn’t see the demo from the amount of people around. But I did spend an awful lot of time taking photos of stand and the cardboard cut outs of my favourite baker in the universe.

The Cake and Bake Show

I could write forever about The Cake and Bake Show 2014. But I think I’ll go one better, why not pre-register and grab your ticket for the 2015 show. It’s set to be bigger and better than this year. You will find me by the macaroons.
