Uncommon Review
It’s the week before Christmas, and sometimes the last thing you want to do is eat another big meal. But visiting Uncommon Deli was an exception.
My mum and I went for a walk on the Southbank and were kindly invited to review the new Uncommon deli, which is ideally situated just behind the Tate Modern. It’s a real gem, with a warm and inviting atmosphere and a counter full of tasty looking fresh food; from sandwiches and soups to quiches and hot dishes.
The staff were so friendly upon arrival and recommended the Beef Lasagna and the Chicken parm to us, which they plated up alongside a chicken salad. The food was all full of flavour, and surprisingly light.
After our lunch, we were treated to coffee and three delicious cakes: Victoria sponge, Pistachio cake and my favourite Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.
I was pleased to see that the café had a good flurry of people visit over lunch, both to eat in and takeaway, and wish I had somewhere like Uncommon near my office!
During the pandemic, Uncommon diversified its offerings and became a well-stocked gourmet food-shop, with everything from delicious red wine to moreish Italian biscotti. They have a selection of fish, cheeses, pastries and lots of picky bits that’d be perfect for a festive hamper.
My mum is a regular to the area, as she regularly visits the Tate Modern, and said she will definitely be going back – I’ll put in my orders for another piece of carrot cake!
