Wing Wing Review x2

WINGWING_4TH MAY11351_(SELECTED)Get your wings! Get your nice, hot chicken wings!

Last night (Thursday 17th August) was the press night for Wing Wing, a Korean chicken joint in Bloomsbury. It is inspired by Korea’s chicken and beer ‘chimaek’ food joints and NYC equivales which combine tasty chicken and cold beer. The result is ‘Seoul’ food.

As it is a chicken eatery, the main items are wings and drumsticks. There are three glazes on offer: soy garlic, liquorice and hot.  All were delicious, even the liquorice flavoured wings considering I don’t even like liquorice. Hand-brushing every piece of chicken with the sauce is the secret to the burst of flavours experienced when tucking into the mouth-watering chicken. The wings and drumsticks come as 6, 9, 18 or 50 pieces ranging in price from £6.90 to £49.90.

The katsu bao was disappointing. The chicken was too chewy and there was too much coleslaw. For those who don’t want chicken you can enjoy a fish and chip wrap, hallumi burger,  clamari, prawns and rice boxes  or salads (chicken, seafood or tofu). There are also party box options available. If you choose fries, you have the option of normal or seafood fries. I quite liked the seafood ones.

For dessert, we had the salted peanut bao nuts (a brioche type desert) which we thoroughly enjoyed and would have gladly had more of. You can also get strawberry crème, pineapple orange, toffee crème, banana caramel and yuzu meringue ones (£1.90). Or for the ice-cream lovers enjoy pineapple oranage, Nutella mars bar or strawberry granola sundaes (£2.90) or ice cream cone (£1.50). We also had a ginger beer slushy which is refreshing on a summer’s evening.

The sci-fi type self-serving beer dispenser is apparently the only one like it in the UK. The bottom-up beer pouring system fills glasses in less than 7 seconds!

The interior gives a nod to the south-east Asian roots with bursts of colours and playful signage. There are a few sections to sit in: the ground floor, a section along one wall with padded benches and an outdoor space which was good to enjoy the summer’s evening.

If chicken wings are you’re thing, you’ll be impressed but if you’re after a place to talk to your friends the music is a fraction too loud as we found ourselves having to shout at each other. For a second opinion read https://onin.london/wingwings-review/
