XECO FINO Review

static1.squarespace.comWhile Summer maybe over, XECO Wines is bring the UK a reinvented Sherry! Often coined as a cooking ingredient (which is all I knew you could use Sherry for) or your elderly grandmother’s favourite drinks, it is time to turn this drink on its head. Headed up Beanie, Alexa and Polly, three frends who love a Vino, they are taking sherry out of the kitchen cabinet and into  bars and onto cocktail menus across the UK. Made using Palamino Fino grapes from Jerez, XECO Fino promised ‘to be light and fresh on the palate, with gentle savoury and slightly nutty aromas, and just a hint of salinity’.

First impressions, the bottle and the box is lovely. It showcases the relationship between England and Spain. It was interesting while waiting for the bottle to chill, reading up on the bios of the historic characters such as Henry the VII, Alfonso X and Catherine of Aragon.

The perfect serve for XECO Fino is ice cold from the fridge, though the team have worked with bartenders from renowned bars to create a number of easy to make cocktails. Who knew that Sherry wasn’t just for cooking or something you had to drink on it’s own. Our favourites are the XECO Fino with fresh lemonade or Indian Tonic Water. We did find the XECO Fino a little too dry without mixing it, but once our tonic water was added – it was lovely. It was also handy that XECO is also a low-alcohol and low-calorie drink, perfect for those watching the calories.

We’re wishing the summer weather would return so we can enjoy XECO Fino everynight, but luckily it is also the perfect aperitif. XECO Fino can be purchased from  Master of Malt and retails between £15.99 – 16.99.
