Bonedaddies Ramen Bar – Serving up Oodles of warm Noodles

BonedaddiesMy quest to find some groovy independent places took a Japanese turn this week when I escorted Miss Seep and Jeni to Bonedaddies Ramen Bar in Soho. So we  arrived about 6.30pm on a Tuesday. It was already pretty busy! But we only had to wait about 10 mins. There were rows of benches and stools so it was pretty social and cosy, gave the restaurant a nice friendly vibe.

Our waiting staff had given us the menu in the queue, to be honest it all looked good we couldn’t choose! I had the Tonkotsu Ramen, which was served in a 20 hour pork bone broth. Seep had butter chicken and Jeni had a chicken broth concoction.

The staff were really helpful as we:

a) couldn’t pronounce anything, and

b) couldn’t tell the difference between each Ramen!

So they gave us recommendations! I’m embarrassed to say ordering involved a fair bit of pointing

While we were waiting we explored the table top. The decor was really cute everything in little pots (I had to restrain myself from stealing anything for the house!) like garlic, chili oil etc. There was a grinder for sesame seeds (use it they are lush on top!) and our very own Bonedaddies bib.

So the food turned up in mahusive china bowls, all different colours and designs, quite homely. The dishes didn’t disappoint, I was expecting a rather watery soup but the broth had so much flavour! I scoffed mine and was left feeling warm and full.

Verdict?

Nosh: I really liked it as it wasn’t something I usually have or have come across before (a whole bar devoted to Ramen), I wasn’t sure about going but was so glad I did! The broths were really meaty and full of bit and bobs. MERLINS BEARD THE EGGS! The boiled eggs are the best thing everrr (marinated in soy sauce and sugar I was told), I would go back purely to order these.

Its gotta be good, mother Glencross and Hils came up and I took them here! This time I had Tantanmen but without added chili oil (on recommendation for a milder taste), it was spicy but not too hot, really pea-nutty (maybe a little too pea-nutty by the end) but still really yum!  9/10

Dollar Dollar: Each bowl was £8-11. So around my £10 good value for money mark, really filling and so flavoursome. Would have said essentially a bowl of noodles until I’ve tried it. I’ve been proved wrong! 9/10

Team Cohesion: All the waiting staff were quite alternative and kooky which was really cool.. The first time I went one girl was not very good at actually recommending a dish, but still informative. However the second time the chap was amazingly helpful with what to choose, he told us what was his fave. So overall totally brill. 9/10

Vibe: Busy, but the spaces between each other on the tables made dining non-intrusive. People where there in groups and on their own, a total mix. Nice big window view onto the street. People were also queuing before it even opened! 9/10

 Notes:

I absolutely loved it, however I can image its not everyone cup of tea. If you like Japanese food or trying something new totally go here 🙂 I still wear my bib for messy food experiences!

After hours!?

A wander round Soho, then pop into TopShop to buy a periodic table jumper. Damn London and its late night shop openings!
