Brunching at bold new heights: Sky Garden

Darwin Brasserie

Sky Garden has brought back its Sunday brunch menu and we are glad to see it back. Darwin is the amazing and cool brasserie situated on 36th floor at Sky Gardens and in honour of the sunnier seasons have decided to team up with Head Chef Arnaud Delannay to bring what has to be the most breath taking brunch experience in London.

The buffet costs roughly about £38 per person, but the cost is outweighed by the amazing views and the experience. Let me explain my friend and I got to the top of the Sky Garden and saw the most spectacular views of London. The city was stretched out beneath us like a wonderful pop-up map we could see Tower Bridge and the Thames. What made it all the more amazing was that it was a beautiful sunny day, unknown to us that was the Sunday that the Red Arrows were flying across London, it literally felt as though we could touch them.

Darwin – the cool and casual brasserie 36 floors up at Sky Garden – is celebrating lighter, brighter days with the launch this month of its sky-high Sunday brunch menu by head chef Arnuad Delannay.

Renowned “rhubarb” – the talented team behind the food at Sky Garden’s two restaurants and bar – is taking brunch to bold new heights from 11.30am-4.30pm every Sunday while resurrecting that most retro of restaurant trends: the buffet table.

In signature “rhubarb” style, this beautiful buffet – divided into Breakfast and Dessert together with a hot dish from the kitchen – comes on a table that positively groans under the weight of fabulous fare: choose from a revamped ‘bloody mary’ prawn cocktail with fresh horseradish and an asparagus ‘vinaigrette’ with truffle, peas, broad beans and goats’ cheese through to glazed, cooked or smoked ham with smoked salmon and a heritage loom tomato salad. Sweeter treats include a tower of waffles with berry compote and ice-cream, doughnuts, roast peach sundae and pain d’epices. All of which is best enjoyed at a table with sweeping views as day breaks over the city.

Sky Garden Dessert

The undisputed star of the show is the Milkshake Bar which completely reinvents that kids’ classic with both sweet (vanilla bean, fresh berry, banana, caramel) and savoury (spicy tomato, blueberry, kale) twists on the traditional. Meanwhile, the bottomless Bloody Mary Bar provides the perfect hangover-healers for the day after the night before: pick between a tried-and-trusted original, clamato, bullshot or no-booze virgin.

Hot dishes are also available to order from the kitchen, too, from breakfast items like a classic eggs benedict and corned beef hash alongside lunchtime staples such as salted beef brisket and roast leg of lamb. Vegetarian options, meanwhile, include a super spinach and ricotta tortellini and a gorgeous grilled lemon sole.

I ate the Gammon which was served in a beautiful rich sauce and served with the plumpest Yorkshire pudding and crispy roast potatoes. My friend had the minted lamb and it was cooked to perfection and came with full on sides also. You will NOT be disappointed with the mammoth amount of food on offer. It was the perfect afternoon on a sunny Sunday.
