Escape from The Golden Hinde Review

The team behind Secret Studio, TripAdvisor’s No. 1 London escape game, has created a seafaring
mystery aboard the historic reconstruction of Francis Drake’s ship.

Onin.London visited a few weeks ago and had a really fun time. We were fully immersed into the story line as we crawled and rambled away throughout the Golden Hinde during the 60 minute play time.

Oscar Balfour, one of the game’s designers, said “We’re immersing visitors in all the history and
atmosphere of Drake’s ship, combined with the tension, challenges and team-building of a modern
escape game.”

The Secret Studio team is a mix of film-makers, actors and theatre practitioners. “Instinctively we
focus on story and character”, says Oscar, “and the Golden Hinde’s long history has bucketloads.”
The game will appeal to visitors to London, corporate teams, stag/hen parties, and families. It is suitable for anyone over 10, and there is a kids’ version coming soon.

While at times we were a bit confused about the next steps and the storyline, we did laugh loads and manage to solve the clues. Some with a little more help from the actors on board than we’d care to admit. We did manage to escape which would have made some of our team mates making sure we walked the plank if we hadn’t. We’re a competitive bunch here at Onin.London.

We also love escape rooms and this one is worth checking out. The unique venue of The Golden Hinde and the actors created an immersive experience that made us feel like we were really having a swashbuckling adventure. We were grateful for the hard hats as well… especially as one of our crew members / team mates forgot to duck whilst we were solving one of the puzzles. It was funny and no harm was done.

Head to the website to get on board and have a blast trying to escape! We did and I’m sure you will too!
