KXU Review

KXU, the new pay-as-you go fitness concept which recenty opened by Sloane Square is the first fitness space to combine all three principles of strength, stretch and cardio with supportive nutrition and wellness therapies all under one ultra-sleek roof. Having already heard about its amazing facilities and top notch fitness instructors, I went in with high expectations already in mind. There is a range of classes available including spinning, conditioning and HIIT workouts but as a self professed yoga fiend I opted for a Vinyasa Flow class. I walked in and could immediately see what all the fuss over the décor was about. A sleek café area, with jet black ceilings and industrial features, this felt more like the entrance to a club than a gym. Running a bit late, I dumped my stuff in a locker, but not before I had a chance to marvel at the facilities. The attention to design had carried on through right into the ladies room, with more industrial features, and lovely finishing touches like complimentary hair bands, deodorants, towels, and anything you need that you inevitably forget to take to the gym for a pre and post work out.

The large open space studio, which had mirrors on two sides, was finished to the highest standards. More industrial features but with bright spotlights overhanging, so we could get a quick glimpse of ourselves while working out. Having sampled a range of budget yoga centres in my time, I’m always excited when a studio has good quality mats and props like this one. The actual sequence of the class wasn’t anything too notable, it was one which I had completed many times before with a few unusual surprises thrown in, but it was our teachers ability to know everyone’s body so personally and offer variations specific to your physiology which really made the class something truly memorable.

She had an ability to just zone in on exactly what you were doing and understand your body completely, allowing her to adjust you and offer you moves that were completely tailored to you. Right at the end of the class after complimenting my bridge pose, she supported me whilst I went from standing to bridge back to standing 3 times in succession, telling me that I was a natural back bender. Which means my front is not so open, so I should try bending my knees a bit more in my forward folds so I don’t pull me body out of line. In just an hour she had managed to notice more about my practice than teachers I’ve been visiting regularly for ages. The advice shall certainly help my progress going forward, something which I cannot thank her enough for.

This is no budget gym and classes at £24 may sound a bit on the expensive side, but it’s totally worth it. Amazing facilities and fantastic teachers, you get your money worth here. For all you yogi’s out there, I definitely suggest popping into Saskia’s class for some hands on practice and tailored advice, she’s awesome!
