Raise A Laugh For Refuge

Do you know 1 in 4 women are subject to domestic violence?

2 women are killed a week by a current or previous partner?

However they are not alone. Refuge is a fantastic charity set up to support women and children subjected to domestic violence and on the 14th January they teamed up with Benefit Cosmetics to bring us RALFR (not to be confused with rofl which also happened that evening!). The comedy evening took place at the rather smart King’s Place in Kings Cross and entertained it’s viewers with a night of side splitting laughs!

The evening was opened by our MC Tiff Stevenson (@tiffstevenson) who quite finely straddled the line between awkward and tasteful in a combination that was really quite engaging!

The evening was filled by an eclectically awesome array of female comedians. It’s a shame these guys seem to get bad press and was totally unwarranted; they were amazing!

From Pippa Evans (@iampippaevans) dry accents and singing to Ellie Taylors (@elliejanetaylor) great impression of kate Middleton getting into a bar flight we were in stiches throughout.

Other highlights included: the meek Lucy Beaumont'(@lucybeaumont) and her pizza leaflets from York, Jayde Adams (@jaydeadams) and her opera singing in a catsuit, the dry tales of (@lucymangan) the journalist, Roisin Contaty’s (@roisincontaty) love of cheesecake, Sara Pascoe (@sarapascoe) and the only mention of periods that evening was actually rather hilarious!

Our stand out favourite?

Mariana (@best_gabby). Her posh energy was incredible. She had us holding our sides with her dodgy accent, love of exercise and how we should all walk ‘slack at the knee’ to aid our New Years exercise regime. Corking!

Line of the evening?

@loonabimberton and her feminist ranting ‘vagina’s are just snowflakes made of gammon’

Priceless.

Plus the whole evening raised £10,000 and the profile of a very worthy cause!
