Samarkand Vodka Masterclass Review

Tuesday night was my second visit to Samarkand and it was just as fun as my first visit (https://onin.london/samarkand/). Tonight’s master class was all about Vodka. Vestal Potato Vodka to be exact. http://vestalvodka.com/

Throughout the course of the evening we learnt about Vestral’s history, how they make their vodka and the difference between filtered and unfiltered vodka. It was very interesting stuff. I mean who knew that the majority of the world’s vodkas are wheat based rather than the potatoes vodka originated from. We sampled Pomorze Unfiltered Potato Vodka, Vestal Blended Potato Vodka, Kaszebe Unfiltered Potato Vodka and Vestal Aged Vodka. Not only were these vodkas interesting, the majority of them were quite smooth and easy to drink straight.

Polish Donuts were also provided to guests to sample with the vodka. My friend devoured his with a look of pure ecstasy on his face.

After taste testing all the vodkas, we were also treated to speciality cocktails that were created by the fabulous bar and restaurant manager, and his creative team of cocktail masters. The cocktails are on a reduced price menu for guests and this cocktail menu will rotate each cocktail masterclass. We were a tad greedy as we tried them all the ‘Open Sesame, The Riddle, I’m Green, All Lemons Gone Mad and the Sexy Quasimodo’. They were all delicious though I absolutely adored The Riddle. The sweetness mixed with the Vestal Vodka which was infused with Espelette Pepper gave the drink a nice little kick. My friend’s cocktail of choice was the I’m Green. He went back for thirds as he loved it that much.

We had such an enjoyable evening talking to bar staff about the cocktails and the different infused vodkas that Samakand is famous for. Also getting to play the Vestal’s potato shooting game to try win a free shot was a hoot.
