Shh Maman Le Mot: Review

Credit: Ed Robinson/OneRedEye Last year I attend A Place In Time’s 1920’s Tick Tack Club and it was amazing. This year, they have taken over the same venue and created a completely new immersive experience that will once again transport guests to a new era. Arriving once again to a secret location, my friend and I were taken back to 1943 to begin our training as Secret Agents fighting in the French Resistance. Downstairs, guests are greeted and receive a new identity card where you are asked to create your secret identity. Leaving Tegan and Rebecca at the door, we became Mimi and Lou Lou for evening and entered into spy school.Credit: Ed Robinson/OneRedEye

This is where the fun really starts and we couldn’t stop laughing as Colonel Gubbins showed us how to authentically blend into 1943 French culture as British spies. A Place In Time have really done their research as Colonel Gubbins was a real person who was head of the Special Operations Executive during the second world war. Little details like this, goes to show that the creator has taken extraordinary lengths to give guests an authentic experience. The amount of work that has gone into transforming the venue into a top secret bunker and historical France is outstanding.

Downstairs before and after training, guests can play old fashioned battleships, war games and ‘diffuse a bomb’ while sipping on delicious cocktails whipped up by the talented bar staff. Upstairs, a three course French meal awaits and boy is this food delicious. Our menu for the evening consisted of classic French dishes such as Coq Au Vin and Lemon Tart go down a treat. Classic French Cocktails from the 1940’s are also available to purchase and are just delectable. After dinner, guests can continue with their spy training down stairs while dancing the night away.

If you’re a fan of ‘Allo Allo’ and ‘Dad’s Army’, you’re going to love Shhh… Maman Le Mot. Make sure you dress up in your best French attire, think Stripes and Berets. We did and it certainly makes the experience more enjoyable and helped us get into the theme of the evening. Prices range from £17.50 for Entrance into the club or for the full experience and Dinner (7pm or 8pm sitting), it’s £42.50. For a three course dinner and a fully immersive experience, you really can’t complain about the price. Open Fridays and Saturdays for the next six months, you’ll regret it if you miss it.

Once again, I can’t disclose the location of Shhh.. Maman Le Mot but it is located in Central London but it is Zone 1, 5 minutes walk from the Tube and a Mainline train station. Your ticket purchase will reveal the “illicit” address, and instructions on how to gain entry. If you have been to the Tick Tack Club, you’ll know where to go.
