THE MANDRAKE PARTNERS WITH LEADING LONDON FASHION SCHOOL CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS FOR LONDON FASHION WEEK WORKSHOP SERIES

The Mandrake (www.themandrake.com) has partnered with leading fashion school, Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, to host a series of visionary 2D into 3D pattern making and fashion life illustration workshops. The expert classes are part of London Fashion Week’CityWide Celebration’ – a curated programme of unique experiences and activations, set to take place across the capital this September.

Taking place on the 13th and 14th September, the lessons will showcase the talents harboured by the institution’s BA Fashion programme, offering insight into the craft and skill taught across the disciplines of fashion, art and design at London’s infamous creative powerhouse. Each workshop will be taught in the hotel’s imaginative spaces – The Masha Hari Theatre and The Private Dining Room – and are free to attend with limited spaces that require prebooking in advance.

Two of Central Saint Martins’ most-esteemed tutors, Louis Loizou and Joshua Beaty, will lead each session, detailing craft, skill and techniques that guests can take away to their own creative works. Loizou will lead the 2D into 3D pattern making workshops, tapping into his wide-ranging career as a senior toilist and pattern maker in the industry. Beaty will lead fashion life illustration workshops, bringing with him a raft of experience having worked for leading fashion brands and institutions including, Dover Street Market, Julie Verhoeven and Charles Jeffrey. Three Central Saint Martin’s students will also participate in each workshop, assisting with demonstrations and serving as models for the tutor’s handywork.

About the Workshops:

Louis Loizou: 2D into 3D Pattern Making

‘How Can a Box Become A Garment?

This is a fun approach to creative pattern making; a 2D into 3D workshop for learners with no experience of pattern making. Using boxes and working in pairs, students will learn that there are no right or wrong outcomes and to focus on creating 3D shape and form – a technique that many of the great designers have used.

Joshua Beaty: Fashion Life Illustration

Joshua encourages a spontaneous, experimental and no rules approach to drawing. Under his guidance, students break down their inhibitions and their creative juices flow to produce colourful and expressive creative responses to their subject.
