The World’s Best Martini 2019 Competition Review

The search for The World’s Best Martini, 2019 finished with a bang on Tuesday the 15th January. The final took place at one of OnIn.London favourite bars, 100 Wardour Street and featuring six amazing gin finalists. Campfire Gin, HMS Spirits Mary Rose, Marylebone Gin, Plymouth Gin, Conker Spirits Navy Strength Gin and last year’s winners, Arbikie fought it out on a night of booze filled martinis to see who made the best Martini in the world.

The winner this year was Ben and Kate from Campfire winning the title World’s Best Martini, 2019 trophy. Their combination of Campfire London Dry Gin and Dolin Dry Vermouth garnished with orange peel “flowers” soaked in Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth created a unique and innovative twist on the classic Martini impressed judges Rebecca Milford of BarChick, Ivan Dixon of Entroria&Coe and Gabriele Sasnauskaite of Artesian Bar at The Langham. We certainly loved the flowers and getting to sample Campfire’s range of gins.

My personal favourite and the people’s favourite was the Plymouth Gin martini created by Rev JW Simpson. It was paired with a rosemary biscuit and olive and was absolutely lovely.

As the event took place in one of London’s hottest bars, 100 Wardour St, it was bound to be a lovely evening but it was made even better by the lovely gin distillers and the drinks they were making. Tickets were only £25, so it was an absolute bargain as it allowed attendees to meet the gin-makers and sample martinis from each of the competition entries before getting to vote for their favourite. We can’t wait to see who brings home the trophy in 2020.

Keep an eye out on the site for reviews on Plymouth Gin, Campfire Gin, Conker Spirits and more this year as OnIn.London continues our love affair with Gin.
