Vintry & Mercer: Mercer Roof Terrace Review

A few weeks ago we visited the launch of the Vintry & Mercer Hotel and fell in love with this beautiful hotel. Friday night, OnIn.London were once again given the opportunity to visit, this time to review the Mercer Roof Top Terrace.

As soon as we arrived, we were pleased to see the restaurant was busy. They’ve only been open for a few weeks so it’s safe to say they’re doing something right. We were seated in the more intimate area of the restaurant. Dimmed lights and views of the London Skyline. We really couldn’t have asked for better seating.

After getting comfortable and ordering some of the restaurants’ specialty infused cocktails. What are these? Well Mercer Rooftop Terrace knows about Alcohol’s ability to draw out flavours from herbs, spices, and fruits by infusion and then preserve those flavours. So with this in mind they decided to choose a few of their favourite spirit brands as a base and use the alchemy of plants and fruit to create some truly unique drinks.

We tried the TANQUERAY 10 — £16.00 infused with Pink Grapefruit – Elderflower – Lemon Verbena served with Pink grapefruit & bergamot tonic and the PORTOBELLO — £12.00 infused with Green Apple – Pine – Lavender served with Rosemary with black olives tonic. Two Gins, I definitely approve of, but the added infusions made for delightful and refreshing gin and tonics.

The Chef came over to introduce himself to us and charmingly asked whether he could chose our menu for us. We put ourselves in his hands and he didn’t steer us wrong.

To start with he pushed my friend out of her comfort zone and got her to try Oysters for the first time.  To be honest my friend hasn’t stopped talking about how brave she was. I was very proud of her (and myself too). The Butley Oysterage Oysters from Suffolk, Jersey Royals Oysters from Jersey and Thornham Oysters from Norfolk were all extremely fresh and the tarragon vinegar complimented them perfectly.

Though it was the XL Scallops with bone marrow & breadcrumbs that were our favourite starter. They were absolutely divine and melted in our mouths.

Now the Tomahawk steak at 1kg, was a serious piece of meat but was no match for us. The chef joked that if we finished it, we’d get free t-shirts… we did finish it but we’re still waiting on our shirts. Amazingly enough the chef was able to ensure that the steak was cooked to both our specifications. The red wine jus was delicous, though the steak was cooked that well it didn’t really need any sauce. I will be back though to try the lobster though, they looked so good!

For dessert, we were suprised with the Chocolate Mousse, Vanilla Ice Cream and Stout and the Cambridge Burnt Cream. They were the perfect way to finish off our meal before heading down to the DND speakeasy bar to enjoy one last cocktail.

Overall our dining experience was simply lovely and we can’t thank the team at the Roof Top Terrace and Vintry & Mercer enough. The meal was fabulous, the service impeccable and the ambience amazing.

Add Vintry & Mercer Roof Top Terrace to your must visit places to have a meal, it’ll be a night you’ll still be thinking about weeks later.
