Wedding dresses afternoon tea: Park Lane Hotel

Parklane Wedding Dresses Afternoon Tea

When I was told about the wedding dresses exhibition at the V&A Museum I was pretty excited, being a married woman anything that will remind me of my wedding day is a plus for me.

Shut the front door when I heard about the Wedding themed afternoon tea being held at The Park Lane hotel in partnership with the V&A. So what does any good wedding enthusiast do, grab the closest bride to be and take her to the Park Lane Hotel of course.

“Considered one of the most wonderful settings in which to take afternoon tea in London” by the Tea Guild, Palm Court offers a large selection of teas, and serves cakes and scones prepared by award-winning pastry chef Sarah Hartnett and her team. With its beautiful Art Deco lounge, Palm Court has become the gathering place for guests and locals alike and is today one of the greatest places to enjoy afternoon tea in Mayfair.

On arrival we were greeted with a glass of champagne and tuxedo strawberries. They were the cutest chocolate covered strawberries I have ever seen. After we gulped down our champagne we were approached with a tea list. Like most people I am not that cultured in tea and neither was my friend. But the waitress was amazing and by listening to our likes and dislikes recommended that I try the Assam tea and my friend the English breakfast tea.

Our first tray of delights were savoury. We had beautifully handmade sandwiches with an assortment of filings and some beautiful cucumber soup. It was like being at the best wedding reception with perfect food. My friend was so excited, and spent most our time trying to find out how she can get everything made for her big day.

The second tray was filled with plain and apple flavoured scones, served with an array of yummy toppings, yes fresh cream and jam was amongst them. I love a good scone and these were the best I have ever tasted. I scoffed them down pretty quickly as my friend commented on this being the perfect relaxing day away from the busyness of wedding prep.

After the above we were pretty full, but the third tray contained beautiful cakes and desserts cleverly dubbed, something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. The picture below shows how stunning they all looked. I actually do not remember which was which (the champagne kicked in). But each dessert was amazing.

It was a wonderful afternoon. If you are getting married and want an escape whilst still in wedding mode, this is a must. If you just want a great afternoon teamed with great food, then this is a must. If you are in Mayfair or just popping into Hyde Park, then this is a must. Basically everyone should try Park Lane’s quaint goodies before the event concludes at the end of June.
