Magical Reiki Master Maureen Chang

I kept on hearing about the extraordinary powers of Reiki, the practice of energy healing, and decided it was time to give it a go and see if it was something that would make a difference to my life. Having started the practice of yoga last year, I’ve become a lot more in tune with energy in general and had heard some wonderfully empowering Reiki experiences from friends which really intrigued me.

I came across Maureen Chang totally by chance, when Googling Reiki healers that were close to me, near Canary Wharf. On her website, I noticed that she volunteers her Reiki skills in hospitals for half of her week, which instantly caught my attention as I’m always keen to support those giving up their time to serve others, so I booked in a session with her. Her Reiki sessions take place in a treatment room in her home a five minute walk from Canary Wharf station, making it super convenient to get to.

Maureen opened her doors and greeted me with such warmth that it immediately put any hesitations I had at ease. She took me to her treatment room which was small, with a sofa and a treatment bed, and had a very calming vibe. We then sat and talked for a while, and she talked through her journey with Reiki and how she had become a Reiki Master, as well as more about what it actually is. She then asked me to tell her more about myself so she could get a sense of what it is that I needed.

She specifically told me that she didn’t see herself as a healer, but as more of a channel for the universal life force energy that already exists and flows in all life and around us. Having Reiki with her allows that energy to flow freely through our bodies which helps us to feel in harmony, as often we can accumulate blockages that bring us out of sync. Essentially, Reiki helps to restore the balance that everyone should already have.

I then lay down on the treatment bed, and she asked me to relax and remain open to the experience. A part of me was fully expecting not to feel anything, but I tried to remain hopeful after hearing the wonderful things she had said. Having my eyes closed helped, as I was able to tune out anything that she was doing, and focus more on my breath.

I was really surprised when I started to feel what I can only describe as waves through my body as she worked her way over me. I felt really connected to what she was doing, and like a lot of the negative emotions that were stored in my body were being lifted out. It also felt like quite an emotional experience, which I was definitely not expecting. She continued for about an hour, but it was difficult to tell because I was so relaxed and tuned into the sensations I was experiencing.

When it was over, she let me lie there for a few minutes while I reflected on what had just happened, and I was left with a very distinct feeling of lightness and calm. I asked her how often I should book in for sessions, and she explained that it was up to me and if I started to think about her, it was likely that that would be the right time. I loved this approach as it felt really genuine and personal to me.

After we parted and I carried on with my day, I noticed a huge difference in how I was feeling. I felt a great amount of positivity and felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I also felt quite tired – which Maureen explained was normal, especially for the first session.

What I really enjoyed about the experience with Maureen is that from the moment I met her, I could tell she really cared about my needs and was focused on how Reiki could help me in my life. She was a really calming influence throughout, which put me totally at ease, and even though I was a bit sceptical, after actually feeling the sensations of energy flowing in my body, I realised the power of Reiki is undeniable.

The cost of a session with Maureen is £60, and for anyone that has difficulty affording this cost, or that has a chronic health condition, she asks that you get in touch via email to discuss a possible concession. Her email address is [email protected]
