Sarah Hyndman is a graphic designer and writer who is known for her interest in typefaces and perception. She is the author of Why Fonts Matter, to be published by Virgin Books on 28th January 2016.

Sarah launched Type Tasting as a forum for research, skill development and exploration about the experience of type/fonts from the type consumer’s point of view. Sarah shares her findings in an entertaining and inspiring way that encourages conversation and promotes understanding beyond the design world.

Type Tasting began on Valentine’s Day 2013 with an evening of ‘Typographic Swearing ‘n’ Cussing’. Since the launch Sarah has given a TEDx talk called ‘Wake Up and Smell the Fonts’, and spoke about the power of type at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas.

She has organised and curated a mass participation typography exhibition and workshops at the Victoria & Albert Museum for the London Design Festival and teaches typography for the D&AD. She is working on collaborative research with the Crossmodal Research Laboratory at Oxford University.

At Creative Mornings London, Sarah will be presenting ‘Eating your Words’. In a world that is becoming increasingly visually dominant, it is more important than ever to remember that visual language, typography, is a multi sensory experience.

Using all of our senses speeds up our ability to recognise signals and to communicate effectively. By designing for all of the senses we can build anticipation, create authentic user environments and make things more memorable.
