Firedog Review

Firedog Upstairs Interior 6Here at ONIN London we love good food with excellent service. We found that at Firedog, a modern Turkish meze dining club and bar on Newman Street, Fitzrovia. We were running a bit late for our booking at Firedog on the 12th of June 2017, but the fabulous staff were very accommodating. Once we were settled and took in our surroundings we couldn’t believe how Firedog was a world away from the busy tourist district only about 20 metres away from Oxford Street.Firedog Downstairs Dining

The interior of Firedog is funky and it really is surprising how different the small intimate dining space is from the larger dining area downstairs. We sat upstairs but it would have been pretty awesome watching the talented chefs downstairs work their magic on our meals.

As with most restaurants which serve Meze restaurants, the best way to eat at firedog is to order a range of different dishes and share them. With this in mind we chose Hung yoghurt (with red pepper, feta), Crispy Sujuk (with hung lemon yoghurt, honey), Charred octopus (with smoked corn puree), Hummus with burnt sumac butter) and two servings of Chilli glazed charcoal prawns.FIREDOG - MEZE

The warm bread served with the warm Hummus was an absolute treat but as my friend is allergic to gluten, it means no bread or other wheat products. Luckily staff were very helpful in providing a selection of fresh vegetables so my friend didn’t miss on trying the Hummus or the Hung yoghurt dip. We had both never eaten warm Hummus before so this was unusual at first but with every bite we became big fans. But when you visit Firedog, you have to try the Charred octopus and Chilli glazed prawns. They were to die for. Full of flavour and spice the prawns really did knock our socks off.

For our mains we went with Charred lamb cutlets with olive marinade and the Braised ox cheek with a few different sides to compliment our meal (Cyprus potatoes, Greens and Cumin, honey glazed carrots). Absolutely delicious, it was such a shame we couldn’t finish all our mains because we really wanted to not miss out on dessert.FIREDOG- LAMB CHOP

I went with the Hot chocolate delight with raspberries and pistachios, while my friend went with the gluten free version of the Tahini ice cream with kadayif and honeycomb. Wow, what a perfect way to end the meal. Gooey melted chocolate with fresh raspberries and sweet honey icecream with actual honeycomb! Both desserts left smiles on our faces and has my mouth watering just thinking about them.Lambs floss 2

Don’t forget to check out the cocktails at Firedog as well. The Lambs Floss made with Hibiscus gin, grapefruit juice pomegranate syrup rosewater and sour cherry compote with candyfloss tasted like Turkish Delight heaven. The No Smoke Without Fire made with havana especial, pineapple syrup, chargrilled pineapple, lime, chilli, cream and smoked yoghut with marshmallow was fun. Toasting marshmallows on a cocktail! That was definitely a first for us.

Firedog was a great restaurant and definitely worth visiting. It’s located at 92-94 Newman Street, Fitzrovia, London W1T3EZ.
