Freelancers no longer need to spend lots of time and money finding an office space – there’s a new solution for the UK’s fastest growing workforce

With half of the UK’s workforce set to be freelance by 2020, standard office spaces will start to lose their appeal.

Instead, ‘fluid’ contemporary office spaces will gain popularity; cheap, available at a moment’s notice and in an area that fosters creativity.

We’ve already seen the effects of this in cafes and pubs across London – freelancers furiously tapping away on laptops as they sip soy lattes, startups having business meetings at their local venues (instead of booking up big corporate boardrooms) and small businesses opting for team members to work from home to cut down on unnecessary office costs and boost productivity.

While it’s favoured by many, there are drawbacks to being freelance; two of the biggest issues are expenses and location issues.

You’re sat in a cafe, and you know you’ll need to be there for a good six or seven hours – which also means you have to buy at least a snack and two or three drinks without the staff complaining.

Or maybe you’re less bothered about the money spent on coffee, but wandering about your neighbourhood simply trying to find a table to sit at, that also has a plug next to it so that your computer doesn’t run out of juice.

Yes, the ‘fluid’ office exists but there are problems that need to be solved. Thankfully, there are those who are already on the case including AndCo – the new location platform that helps you find a space quickly and efficiently.

For £20 a month, freelancers can sign up and book desks and meeting rooms at one of the many hotel lobbies, cafes and restaurants available, either through the brand’s app or directly through the website.

And founders of AndCo know a good place from a bad one – each venue that signs up with their service must have high-speed WiFi and a guaranteed desk if a customer (i.e. you) has booked it.

Next time you’re stood inside a cafe and cursing the freelancers who have taken up ‘all the good spots’, take a breath, open the AndCo app and find your very own table – booked, set up and ready, just for you.

And if you still want to spend lots on coffee and snacks, that’s OK too.
