Island Poké Review

Poké bowls seem to be dominating the health scene right now, and rightfully so… theses bowls are packed full of fresh and healthy ingredients, packed full of nutrients and are just so dam delicious!

Just so you don’t make a fool of yourself when ordering a bowl, Poké is pronounced pok-eh, which means to “slice” or “dice” in Hawaiian. And believe me once you get try a Poké bowl your be back again, they’re pretty addictive.

I went to the recently opened Island Poké in Canary Wharf, in Crossrail Place, even though it was an hour before closing the staff were still very upbeat and I was greeted with a warm and friendly manner.

You are walked through the different options for your Poké bowl, where you get to build your own bowl, the base consists of rice (brown rice or sushi rice) or slaw, I got half and half, along with diced salmon, mango, sweetcorn, guacamole, seaweed and sesame seeds. They serve up generous sizes, which is good, no scrimping here… If creating your own bowl sounds like hard work, fear not you can also select from one of the house bowls: Classic Ahi (tuna), Yuzu Lomi Lomi (salmon) or Beet It (roasted beetroot).

I have been back to Island Poké twice since visiting the first time and yes although not the cheapest at 9.95 (includes guacamole) it is totally worth it, healthy, delicious and filling!

The only thing that let it down for me was the range of drinks, perhaps they could add a few different kombuchas or a range of fresh juices (but in time I’m sure there will be more options).
